One-attack songs and amplified preface much longer than them (2016)
- Remaking of Saburo Murakami’s tearing paper performance & Napalm death’s 1second song -
A work that reinterprets and remakes *Passing Through* (1955–) by Saburō Murakami of the Gutai Art Association as music consisting of repeated single-strike explosions, in the manner of hardcore punk and metal.
Murakami's *Passing Through* (1955–) is widely recognized through the "traces" of his actions — photographs of the performances associated with the work, and installations of the paper torn through by his acts. In my remake, I focus on the acoustic dimension of Murakami's paper-tearing performance itself, redefining his act as "single-strike music" and attempting a historical integration of music and art.
Immediately before each paper-tearing performance, an oration on the relationship between music and art is delivered. (The format of an MC segment longer than the performance itself also references Napalm Death's *You Suffer* (1987).)
Through this work, I attempt to raise questions about the historical schism between music and art — disciplines that were in active exchange through the first half to the middle of the twentieth century — and their mutual indifference in the present day.
