On What Lies Behind Boredom  (2026)

My practice engages with forms of time and change that tend to go unnoticed behind what we call “boredom.”

Working across video, paper constructions, drawing, painting, and performance, I have explored the slow collapse of the world and the violence embedded in everyday life through narrative-stripped duration, caricatured interiors and landscapes, ghostlike presences, and insistently repeated screams.

Having long been immersed in hardcore punk and experimental music, I came to see the tension that builds within monotony and the violence that persists through repetition as a framework for thinking about Japanese society after the 2011 earthquake and nuclear disaster. My experience of music has become a basis for apprehending not only the events themselves, but the quality of time that continues to flow through them.

More recently, drawing on my work in IT and the game industry, I have approached the homogeneous, unending time and the standardization of urban space, architecture, and labor environments expanding under capitalism, AI, and the attention economy through the sensation of “boredom,” developing them into images of offices, abstract painting, monstrous bodies, and collapsing architecture.
