Drum Dive Festival (2005)
The second installment in the drum destruction series, following *Drum Dive Grey Scale* (2004), adapted for live performance and installation in a physical space.
During the exhibition period, the performers (myself and a friend) begin constructing drums out of paper and polystyrene foam as soon as the gallery opens each day. Then, one hour before the gallery closes, the drums are destroyed.
This routine is repeated daily; the destroyed drums gradually scatter and accumulate throughout the venue.
I am fond of the process by which the destroyed material piles up and becomes an environment in itself — it seems to represent the euphoria born of tedium produced by the relentless succession of explosions in hardcore punk.
